It appears that sea shanties are back in vogue, started maybe by Tic Toc (which I have not yet visited). But it seems to be a sufficiently strong fashion for it to have emerged in other news channels too.

What is your favourite sea shanty?

Mine is the "Gorch-Fock-Lied", the song by the sailors on the Gorch Fock, the German navy's sail training ship. A beautiful ship, which I was lucky enough as a girl to be invited to visit on board with my mother when she called in Dublin.

Here is one of the sea shanties becoming very popular. While I have known the tune for a long time, the text in the video gives some valuable explanations...
