Film projection in the Theatre/Cinema

What was the method of film projection in the Theatre/cinema?  When I travelled on QE2 in the 1980s the picture and sound quality were very professional and I'm curious if 35mm film was used, whereas I understand 16mm was the normal format on passenger liners.  In 2006 I noticed this had been changed to video projection.  Back in the Cunard days was there a dedicated projectionist onboard?

Rodney, I believe it was 35mm. There was a dedicated projectionist on board, an Electrical Petty Officer. Depending on the leave rota sometimes 2. He was replaced by a concessionaire along with the rest of the crew.

The Casino used one  of the old interpreters booths at the back of the Cinema as parts  storage.
When it was quiet the techs would hide in there and watch the movies....

Rod .... there were indeed two projectionists one of which would go up to the kiddies nursery in the afternoons to show cartoons, at one time I was in charge of the SRE and as such had some responsibility for the cinema.... on occasion I would see them up in the nursery, watch the cartoons for a while and have  a  cup of tea with  the nursery nurse Caroline
