Scott, it was burgundy and silver pre 1972 and then post 1976. The only major colour change the room had was when the Race Chairs were upholstered in blue. I thought they looked quite smart in blue but that lasted from 1996 to 1999.

My question also relates to the PG - it sounds like the walls were moved, and never moved back to their original location - at the forward end of the room towards the galley.  Also, where were the 12 windows?  I'm confused!

Let me think about the walls Rob.

The expansion of the Columbia Restaurant into the galley resulted in the provision of 12 new windows in the superstructure on the starboard side of Quarter deck. If you compare the starboard and port side Quarter Deck windows in 1968 you will see port side had more windows (because of the Grill Room).

At the same time in 1972 the number Upper Deck windows was reduced by 12 on the port and starboard sides (six each side) and the front superstructure with the loss of The Lookout.

And then from 1972 to 1976 it was beige, bronze and creamy, like the Columbia?

They tried to make it look like Columbia so it had the same colour scheme but it seems they weren't very successful. I have never seen an image I'm afraid. I have images of the extemsion into the galley (need to scan).

Louis is correct, this is the Quarter Deck Caronia restaurant before the 1999 refit.

Cheers. Chris.

just wonderful looking at all the posts about her restaurants and seeing the pictures.   It brings back such wonderful memories for me.  As a kid in the 70's eating in the columbia and then later as an adult always the queens grill - QE2's restaurants were all just fantastic.

Thanks for all the memories  - such happy times!! feel well lucky to have sailed on her in all her different guises.

This is building into an interesting history of the QE2 restaurants topic.  I was fortunate to dine in the Mauritania Restaurant in 1997, 2001, and 2002 the Caronia Restaurant in 2003, and the Princess Grill in 2004 but I envy those who witnessed the changes over the years and thankful that they have taken photos.

It is amazing how the restaurants have changed over the years.  In 1968 when I was fortunate to see around the QE2 before she left Clydebank I saw the original decor of the restaurants.  Today I would have taken photos but at that time my little camera with the cube flash bulb would not have captured the all there was to see, but I so wish that I had taken some photos.
