The PG Bar was off deck plans for a while as it was used as a storeroom believe it or not!! What a waste.

I'm very glad you are bringing this topic up.  My dad had been telling me that I found and took him to an abandonded bar on the ship in the 70's and for the life of me I could not remember and thought he was losing it.  This has to be it - right time frame and it fits the description as given by my father.  I'll have to call him now and tell him he's not crazy.  Thanks!

What room was this piano in?  It does not look familiar at all.
The old Yacht Club

Louis

I am assuming that the old Yacht Club is in the same location as the current Yacht Club?  If not, where was it?

Thanks Loius,
Learning more about our beloved ship through this site with each day that passes!!!

I'm assuming that the aft bulkhead of G Stariway on the Upper Deck was opened into the Yacht Club in the '86/'87 refit?  That area was always a bar but only accessed by the port and starboard passageways out of the Double Down Room before the removed wall allowed direct access.  Do you or anyone know when the enclosed deck area of the Yacht Club was extended?

The PG Bar was off deck plans for a while as it was used as a storeroom believe it or not!! What a waste. I'm glad sense was seen and it was reopened. For a time after 1994 there was a determined effort to get people to use the Crystal Bar and the 'new entrance' but the good old regulars would have none of that and continued with the One Deck entrance and who could blame them? The PG Bar and Grill certainly my favourite space on board but funnily enough, I never used to like eating in PG - the Britannia Grill always being my favourite place to eat.

I don't mean to be dominating this board recently but it really captivates me.  If you look closely at the cutaways and guides on Rob's QE2 website, specifically the 1969 cutaway and 1975 guide, you can see the PG Bar in 1969 and it missing in 1975.  Find and follow C Stairway to the top in the 1969 Cutaway (http://www.roblightbody.com/liners/qe-2/1969_TILN/1969cutaway33.jpg) to see the bar just under the PG and then look at 1975 Ship's Guide (http://www.roblightbody.com/liners/qe-2/1975_Pocket_Guide/Scan10150-1.JPG) and you'll see an empty untitled space where the bar was.

When you look at the following plan it looks like it was open

Thanks Louis but I can vouch that there was a solid wall aft on G Stairway, Upper Deck landing where a 1/2 flight of stairs now leads up to the Yacht Club entrance.  I'll look for a picture in my collection.

On a separate note, is that photo from a general arrangement plan?  If so, where did you get it?

Yes, access from G Stairway was obtained in 1987 for the new Yacht Club when the Double Down Bar was removed. The enclosed deck area of the Yacht Club was extended in 1994.

A shot of the Tables of the World in 1979 and as the Mauretania either in 1983 or 1988.

That Mauretania shot must be 88 rather than 83.  Thats the post April-87 décor.

Hi Michael,

Here's a screen grab of the room in your preferred style for those here who don't remember it - very poor image quality but it gives the general idea :) Do you have any better shots you could post?

Chris.
