Here's a virtual walk up the Double Room Staircase for your (nostalgic) enjoyment.

Bob this is just an amazing piece of work.  I have walked up the stairs many times since you added the virtual walk  and I am in awe of your work.  Looking forward to the next virtual walk on QE2.

More experimentation with a rendering program.  I picked up a mirroring effect of the staircase on the Double Up Room rail on the right side of the photo. I think its because I don't have any lighting except for the ceiling over the dance floor.   Will need to fix that and add some additional accent lighting in the Double Down Room.

Still, I so much want to walk into the picture and enjoy the room again!

I can see the improvements you have been working on - fantastic.

I am with you on that one Bob and your virtual model is already making me feel like I am there in the Double up Double down room.

Wonderful!!! Which rendering program did you end up using?
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

There is a really clear view of the plants at the bottom of the stairs in your recent image. The detail is amazing.

I’m using a 30 day trial of V-ray.  I tried a few others but this one seems the most intuitive with great results.

Starting to get artistic with my model.  I was moving around the room looking for good viewing angles and ran across this one which I entitled "Eerily Empty".

I'm wondering if this photo reflects what the room must have felt like shortly before the Double Room demolition that made way for the Grand Lounge.

That's quite atmospheric Bob.  As someone who stood in an entirely empty Grand Lounge ten years ago, i can visualise it well.

These modelling images are so realistic it is becoming hard to tell what's real and what isn't.

Thanks Pete.  I agree and can hardly wait to start on the Lookout Bar just to see how it looks rendered. It’s the public room I remember least (I was 9 when I was last in it). However, there’s a few things left on the Double Room to finish.

Not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth but does anyone know what the Lookout Bar entry doors looked like?  Short of a photo, I will make them the same as the Britannia Restaurant doors.  I figure the decor would be balanced like that since it shares a common “lobby” - aka Stairway A landing on Upper Deck.
