Clever stuff - just amazing that can be done with digital imaging.

I had some fun with this one.  These screen capture photos are from the top of Stairway D (Boat Deck) where the entrance to the theater balcony is.  I made the windows transparent smoked glass to maintain darkness in the theater and then put a screen capture from a movie I saw in the theater, Moonraker (1979).  This is a 1969 QE2 virtual model but I don't recall seeing any movies in the theater in 1969 (these would have been movies like "Easy Rider",  "True Grit" and "Hello Dolly".

The still pictures don't do it justice.  I'll see if I can put together a short animation of the model to better leverage the effect.

Enjoy these photos in the meantime!

Here's the video.  Its a bit inaccurate as there were two sets of balcony doors instead of one (I'll fix that).  But in the meantime, the view of the movie screen through the door windows gives a sense of being in the balcony looking down.  I also still need to add the ceiling and other details so don't be too critical (lol).

Enjoy!

Where am I (in the virtual 1969 QE2)?  Here are some clues:

I have not added the furniture

I got carried away adding detail to a room just off of a stairway to give the stairway some context

The walls should give it away

Here's an example of what i mean by adding context to the room.

Note the background photo of the Columbia Restaurant I added for the Q Deck landing on Stairway D.

It helps give the model a continuous feel as opposed to just the stairway.

Here's what my Stairway D looks like outside the model.

Note the small photo of the "Moonraker" scene from the theater balcony view (see reply #152 and 153) in the upper right of the picture.

I know!  You've done the walls perfectly

Thanks Rob.  Fortunately I had photos at the right perspectives and resolutions that I could get the exact number of vertical and horizontal squares and their measurements.  That, with the assistance of Michael G's general arrangement plans, enables a great representation of the rooms.

The previous posts on modelling QE2 in Sketchup are fascinating to see and I think Rob is doing a fine job. I had a go at modelling the Queen Mary Grand Suite in sketchup then made a vray render of same from various angles. I must stress this is a work in progress and needs further refinement and a few details yet to be added.
I hope to move on to do the Grills Lounge next which always struck me as a very nice place to have a coffee and a spot of lunch  :)

Looks amazing, I am sure the model makers on the forum will respond.   However, as someone who has no knowledge about constructing these images that gives us an opportunity to experience an area of QE2, I am impressed and looking forward to hearing more about how you construction these amazing images.

Thank-you for contributing to the forum.

If you have had a chance to look at the video Steven has produced, you cannot fail to be impressed with the attention to detail, especially the sounding of QE2's horn and the pips and music on the radio, which is a nice touch.

Lots of information of the Grand Suites topic.

Does anyone have dimensions for cabins? I want to start with a Five Deck cabin and then move upwards through the decks in my 3D model
