1987 to 1994 era Queens Room Chairs?
« on: Jun 16, 2020, 04:03 PM »
Hi everyone,

In QE2's lobby building there are chairs that bear an uncanny resemblance to the chairs Queens Room had after QE2's re-engining. I was wondering if these are indeed the same chairs that were kept elsewhere since they were swapped out in the late 1994 "Project Lifestyle" refit, or are just very close replicas? Please excuse the poor quality image as it's a screenshot from the livestream tour of the ship and lobby I did on Facebook.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Interesting topic Thomas, I had attached another photo from the Dubai reception area of the chairs.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Looking to see if there is a good photos of these chairs in situ on QE2.

Noticed this photo posted by Cunardqueen in the Queens Room topic.  https://www.theqe2story.com/forum/index.php?topic=3924.msg100813#msg100813

Please post if you find other pictures of the original chairs

Perhaps we will find the answer to Thomas' question.

The chairs in the QE2 Terminal are of the same design as the 1987 - 1994 Queens Room ones but they came from the Wardroom...

Thank you for the information Michael and solving the mystery :) . They appear to have been reupholstered like many of the chairs onboard such as the high and low back chairs used in Queens Room from "Project Lifestyle" until the end.

Some of the bar stools in the Wardroom are now used in the Chart Room. Glad that these chairs and stools weren't disposed of although I will say the bar stools don't really suit the Chart Room in my opinion compared to the bar stools in there in the end with Cunard.

The badges that were in the Wardroom appear to have made their way into the Golden Lion as a second layer of badges around the ceiling edge of most of the space. I do wonder if they also include the badges that lined the space where the square spiral staircase goes up to the bridge area. That is a mystery I'm not sure any of us will be able to solve unfortunately.

I remember sitting in the Queens room chairs when they were just out of their packets. I thought they were lovely at the time, and I still like them in themselves, but now I think they were terrible compared to the overall room design.  They're design classics though so not surprised some have survived.
