Unusual that internal railings were not installed on those windows, I have visions of people being bashed into the windows when she was in a heavy sea. The deceleration when hitting a large wave could be quite dramatic
I remember being in the casino one time when this happened and my tool cart came flying toward me and a passenger.....I gallantly took the hit...OUCH!

I have no idea - the only time I was ever on board was September 2002, by which time that bar was long gone.

Good question - I suspect given their size even armoured glass would have felt the strain at some point.  Out of curiosity - did they use armoured glass or if not then what?

The bit outside the lookout lounge was a deck with railings, most of it is still there today, even with the original black plastic handrail I made a point in 2011 of standing there.

Tonight's photo (attached) was taken in January 1969.  Taken from the coffee shop I presume (later the Queens Grill Bar) looking out to boat deck, where one of hte lifeboats has been lowered.

Quick update on the mammoth project that is these slides!!

I've now finished scanning them in, and I feel a little sadness at the end of the surprises each time I scan one.  An awful lot of the photos are either of people, or are poor quality - I think this probably leaves around a quarter of the slides as "good".

Initially, I scanned the box in the order they were in the box, however it has become clear to me that they weren't in the box in any order any more...  Now, some slides are stamped with a date, so that's fine.  Others have something written on them.  But lots of others - a whole pile - have nothing at all.

I have sat this afternoon and sorted the slides into each type of slide, and am reorganising them that way.  This way (hopefully) a clue or something written on one slide, can date-check all the other slides of that batch to give at least an approximate date.

Interesting to note the rolled up Jacob's Ladder. Wonder what it was doing there at the time?

Ahhhh But each slide captures a  rare moment in time and unlike todays modern gadgets the photographer would have no idea at the time if they would turn out good bad or indifferent.

After the 4th May event it might be a good chance to post the less than interestings ones one at a time and open them up for discussion, what, who, where do we see in the slides ?
