Is it possible?  Could QE2 Dubai's PR department finally be getting into gear?

Majestic QE2 is docked in Dubai, but why did these crew, an Englishman and an Indian, stay back?
Tour guide and head chef say an intense love of the ship called them back on-board

A lovely article, and indeed also strong from a PR perspective.

We had the pleasure of a personal tour of the ship from
Peter, very entertaining, heart warming and informative, we loved every second and it was a pleasure to meet him.

At the end we presented him with a QE2 Story calendar and he seemed genuinely chuffed.

The food we sampled aboard, especially in the Queens Grill, brunch and New Year’s Eve was excellent too.  The Lido was a bit more variable...but the great tradition of amazing food on board can still be found.

The big brunch review: Lido brunch at QE2 Dubai

It’s a brilliant option for families, with a huge play area adjacent to the restaurant housing all the toys and playhouses little ones could need for a fun-filled afternoon.

That's the QUEENS ROOM!  Once the most amazing feat of 1960s design, and THE place for afternoon tea until the day she arrived in Dubai.  Its one of THE most famous pieces of interior design EVER.

Not just a big play area for kids.

Sigh.

We have seen three main uses for the Queens Room, as a major venue for the larger conferences and events, a smaller, roped off meeting space and yes, a children’s play area, specifically while the brunches are going on in the Lido...

Oh l dont know about that, did you ever attend any of the Art Auctions, they could be an hoot, persons named were fully aware not to raise the paddle , unless for geting more fizz, yes l know childish behaviour
Or the World Club parties  or even the Captains Receptions , you never really saw the Officers meet n mingle they always were in a big huddle to the side of The Queen.
But l do agree, seeing Kids building blocks just doest sit right. While we cant very well have them thrown over board, its a nice thought....

To be honest, its not what they're using the Queens Room for - its the fact that the person writing the review had no idea the room was of any significance, even within the context of QE2.

I actually understand the creche aspect - when the brunch is right next door - what I don't understand is using it for everything.  Isn't the Mauritania Restaurant a similarly large space?

We all hoped and dreamed that the Queens Room would be restored.  Even in their original crazy plans, which would have destroyed most of the ship, the Queens Room was going to be the one bit that was intact, indeed restored to its 1968 glory.

Which begs the question, Do Dubai really have any idea what they are doing..?
answers please on postcard .... ;)

When PCFC Hotels, the new operators of QE2 as the floating hotel QE2 Dubai, needed to find a partner to help them bring her Royal Promenade back to life, it was a daunting challenge.

Titled something about Brandishing Kippers - this is Nothing to do with QE2!
However, from approx the 22nd minute, Petroc Trelawny relates something of his visit to QE2

Surreal and sad, in my opinion, that she's now regarded as a relic, like a museum curiosity or an animal in a cage in a zoo. Glad she's no longer rotting in the cold layup though.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Fantastic!  From Our Own Correspondent is one of the BBC's flagship radio programmes - and something that can still make you proud of the BBC, and permitted a wee bit of British pride too ... to have it cover QE2 is wonderful.
Its a good piece, but it does make you a little sad.  He notes how quiet she is- but he also notes her sleek lines, and her significance.  No mention of the Queens Room Play Centre...
