The Crystal Bar
(Installed as such in 1994)
A special place on Upper Deck that was loved by many people. Stretching across the beam of the ship, there were often seats available where sea-watching in tricky conditions took place.
Here are a good selection of images - because of the lighting, need for privacy for passengers as well as its shape, it wasn't the easiest of places to photograph!

Recently it was used as a Card Room (wasn't it?) and it was the place where QE2's Resident, Mrs Beatrice Mueller used to enjoy meeting with both friends as well as new Guests!
'[RMS] Queen Elizabeth, one of a series of panels by Norman Foster, an "Art Deco bas-relief titled Winged Horse and Clouds" has been placed opposite the Crystal Bar.

Thanks to Martin Cox for the image.

Suggested elsewhere too, 'that the Winged Horse was the source of inspiration for the exquisitely engraved glass mural behind the bar.'
Please, does anyone have an image of this (glass mural)?
2018. The Crystal Bar has recently received a make-over.
Thanks to Louis for this recent image

Contrary to popular belief the bas relief of the winged horse was never on the first Queen Elizabeth. It was intended for the ship but was rejected by the artist as it had tinny air bubbles in it. The relief then spent many years under the desk of the PR Manager at Cunard's London HQ prior to finally being placed on a ship in 1994.
