QE2 Tall oval windows on the boat deck

When QE2 was created, on both sides of the boat deck, she featured a large set of lovely tall oval windows looking out over the boat deck to sea.  These let light into the upper area of the Double Up room.

I counted 52 windows (26 on each side) of the Double Up Room (Boat Deck level) on builder’s plans so it assumed that is how many of the ‘sausage-shaped’ windows were in place in 1969.

In 2006 I counted 17 ‘sausage-shaped’ windows on each side. All but two on each side were covered.

They are now hidden behind the shops on the upper gallery of the Grand Lounge. Once the shops were set up, some of the previously open windows were presumably blocked out in this way. Pete Cain's photo below shows the other window frames, which must have been filled with glass when the Double Up room operated :

 Isabelle, I often found myself wondering & still do, if these were blocked up to help aleviate the metal fatigue  she was suffering , I bet they could be opened up again now her sea days seem to be over . Got another somewhere from inside the conference room I'l post it when it's found..

Is it me, ore do those windows look like they could provide a lot of natural light into a room, but also still give some privacy when required, but all doing it in a rather splendid looking way.

In many ways yes, although us "commoner's" could still gawk at the Queen's Grill class as we walked past - I remember that lol - see them having their afternoon tea etc.
