QE2 Chief Engineers

 Steam Engines

Don Wilson
1969 to 1972  retired

Jack  Marland
1969  to 1980  retired medical  Died: 27 September 2017

William Farmer
1977 to 1979  retired - Died: 2001

John Grant
1978  to  1984  retired medical

Ron Bateson
1980 to 1984 retired. Died: July 2013

Alistair Harman
1984 to 1985 went to Cunard Countess medically retired 1986

Robin Rodger
1984 3 weeks filled in due to  manning requirements.

B Gregory
1984 to 1986  went to Cunard Countess

John Tomlins
1984 - 3 weeks Filled in due to manning requirements

Tom Goode
1984  3 weeks -  Filled in due to  manning requirements. Died: circa 1989?

John  Chillingworth
1984 to 1987 Appointed as QE2 Chief Engineer at the age of 31

Stan Childs
(to be confirmed)1970's or 1980's)

Diesel Electric Engines

Steven Hare
1986 to 2002

Simon Gillan
1987 to 2002 went to QM2 (medical retirement)
 
John Chillingworth
1988 to 1989 Chief Engineer of QE2 (Diesel Electric Engines)

Gareth Hambin
1994 to 1998

Brian Wattling
2000 to 2002 when he joined the site team for the construction of QM2.         

John Hanvey
2001? to 2008

William R Robinson
2001 to 2007
Note: He was due to take charge of the Queen Victoria but this was delayed as  the initial design of the ship could not accommodating the Queen Room, so it was re-designated as the P&O ship Arcadia. He continued as Chief Engineer of QE2 until 2007 when he joined Queen Victoria.   

A Lee
2002  to 2004 (dates to be confirmed) retired

Paul J Yeoman
2007 to 2008   now covering the Cunard and P&O fleet

Thank-you to John Lester for suggesting that we set up a board for Chief Engineers' profiles, as had previously been done for the Captains. 

Thanks also to Chief Engineers who provided information and forum members who constructed the list of Chief Engineers that has given me a starting point for building the profiles.

The Captain may be at the helm of a ship but the ship goes nowhere without it's the very skilled engineers, led by their Chief
