Thomas - you are correct, the final visit to Monte Carlo / Monaco was 26 July 2008. The itinerary for that trip:

20 July     Southampton
22 July     Lisbon
24 July     Propriano
25 July     Civitavecchia
26 July     Monte Carlo
27 July     Barcelona
28 July     Gibraltar
31 July     Southampton

We were at Cannes on About the 16th august, just along the road a wee bit.

Captain Perkins made no mention that some of our ports were final calls, which I think included Barcelona. I also had my bridge visit cancelled due to the sea conditions on the day i was meant to visit... Didn't seem too bad to me!

Thank you for confirming Michael  :) . We only found out our stop in Monaco was her final when we were about to raise anchor if I remember correctly.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

I remember lengthy internal debates on how final ports should be handled. It was decided, quite rightly I think, that anything extra or special should be the responsibility of the port. I drafted a release about it being QE2s last call there and sent it to every port to customise and issue if they wanted. We knew some ports were always going to be more proactive than others. It was also the right decision as Cunard did not have the manpower to galvanise ports into action and it was right to focus on the designated farewell voyages to make them more special. Every cruise in 2008 would have had a last this or a last that and it would have affected onboard morale if a fuss was made every other day about it being the last....

Here are a few video clips from the cruise 20th to 31st July 2008. There are some passenger scenes so you may be there.

The planning could have been extra sad, had everyone not been so busy both practically as well as thoughtfully - and professional.

Quebec, Stavanger, and in particular - the QE2 Supporters Group in Geiranger must have read the releases extra well!
The latter celebrated with a gathering on the edge of the fjord, plus cannon and smoke!
The on board approach was interesting - depending on who it was involved in any conversation - Crew, in particular - in so many cases, QE2 had been their home - and what came across was a significant level of underlying sadness, and the unsettling aspects of not knowing where the next contract might be... 'No Ma'am, not yet...I have asked for Queen Mary 2'
and 'spose it'll be cargo ships' - and to this day, the cargo ship thing is still (of course) inevitably something that wasn't ideal....
The start up teams had been gone - and there weren't many in the July / August voyages who were certain of their next move...
Officers were business like, and I cannot remember any conversations regarding 'the next step', interestingly, neither then - or since.

Talkng about QE2, thinking about QE2 and smiling about QE2 continues to this day - and the crew and seniors still light up when there are a couple of moments to remember the 'old home' - mostly these are for brief 'stories' - usually ending in laughter!
(This is now well off topic - sorry to Rob 'n all!
It has great potential for present day discussion - maybe we could have a new one?)

Wow it's a small world, thank you for sharing your footage Waverley. Was this your last QE2 trip too? I'll have a look through each of the videos as while me and my Mum may not appear my Dad with his video camera might (can't miss it!). You may have met my Dad without knowing, me and my Mum didn't go ashore here (Mum for obvious reasons by then). Happy memories of her including the rattling door of either the library or bookshop (can't remember which).

Also my Dad recorded video from a tender in Propriano too (I think this was her only call here):

My Dad was on one of the Schat-Harding catamarans though from memory as they offered the best view for video and photos up top. They had different davits onboard (resembling QM2's davits) and were fitted in the mid 1990s. They are now sadly missing (for personal sentimental reasons - I was almost seasick in one at least once - they were lively boats!) in Dubai.

Furthermore my Dad recorded QE2's wake by leaning out of the openable One Deck aft windows and hand holding his Canon XHA1 in her headwind on the same July 2008 trip:

In Propriano I remember going back inside to photograph A stairwell etc. Your video really captures her ambience and atmosphere and is so very familiar, thank you for recording it at the time  :)

Wow your dad's video of QE2's wake is superb. You can feel the power. My cruise on the QE2 was not only my last but also my first. This included a maiden call at Propriano and also the final call at Monaco. Glad that you like the videos. It brings back lots of memories for me when I watch them.

This was my final cruise on QE2. We probably saw each other without realising we'd be talking on a forum nine years later! I will pass your kind words onto my Dad.

Hello everyone,

In the coming weeks, after repeated attempts to capture the footage off the HD tapes my Dad's Canon XHA1 uses, I am hoping to do my own edits (including longer sequences) of the footage my Dad (with my assistance in some cases) captured on this, our last voyage on QE2, with quite a bit of unseen (on his YouTube channel) footage. This is with my Dad's permission and the finished videos will be uploaded on my YouTube channel.

After much troubleshooting and hassle for me and my Dad, I finally have all the video footage my Dad took on our last QE2 voyage. Now to edit it in software that'll accept the file formats and be reasonably easy to use without pulling my hair out... Da Vinci Resolve (free version) is out of the question, iMovie with it's annoying save system is out of the question, so I need to wrap my head around Lightworks (free version too) having not really used it and not used it for about 4 years. The trials of video editing haha!

Never before seen footage will be the bulk of the footage my Dad has given me permission to edit and upload on my YouTube channel.
