I liked the library and did sit there to browse through some of the old shipping books. Also I purchased at least two books (about QE2) aboard and got special stickers to put in them - they say Bought at the Ocean Bookshop - QE2

Great pics.  What memories.  I was an idiot.  I didn't take enough pictures.  I just thought QE2 would go on for ever.  Never imagined she'd be cut out in her prime.  Thank heavens this forum has  pictorial record of just about everything.  Thanks Isabel.

I spent such a lot of time and money in that shop.  My favourite shop on board the QE2.  The video clip was such a good reminder of what it was like.

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Dominique and I were on the 4 day short cruise to Bilbao in October 2008 (there was one more Med cruise after that then the final to Dubai which we would not have wanted to be on ... too sad).
The bookshop was doing a roaring trade of people buying souvenirs.  Was it Carmel running it and/ or Jane Appleby?  Both I think.  Anyway Carmel rang us told us after she flew home from Dubai that on the last few days as they approached Dubai the bookshop was taking $30,000 dollars a day!!!

QE2 gets several good mentions on the Ocean Bookshop web site :

There is also a picture of the QE2 library.   :)

Nothing beats QE2's library and bookshop.

They were simple, elegant, easy to browse, unimposing, friendly, warm, comfortable and elegant - it was all about the books.

Agree!

And its central location amidships was perfect.

There was an almost constant flow of guests in between the two areas, to and from Stairway E. The large, nicely decorated windows were so great. One couldn't pass in front and not to take a peek inside.

I miss this place.

When there was a book signing taking place there was often a queue of people waiting to have there book signed.  There was a happy atmosphere which added to the event.  When I look at the books I purchased that were signed by the author I think of this.

During QE2's final months, the Memory Book which people were invited to contribute to, was also housed here (or was it in the Library?).

It was wonderful to browse through all those memories that people had written down there and to read the names of the contributors -- such a pity that these pages were never made public afterwards as we all thought they would...

And thanks to Waverley for this video of the bookshop :

Always love watching Waverley's clip of the book shop!
I am also curious of the Memory Book's whereabouts too.

It is in very safe hands - and when the owner has time, it will be published online!
