Thank you for your comments.

QM2 Bows to QE2 was obviously taken in New York. I recall the morning well, It was April 2004 ahead of QM2's maiden eastbound voyage in tandem with QE2.

QM2 arrived the day before QE2 and there was a dinner on board for invited guests. that morning I got up really early, got a taxi to the pier on the Huson river and I was dropped off on the top level of the car park. It was deserted and I wondered if the ship really was coming in? I walked out to the end of the pier for a prime position camera in hand. However, a few minutes later a security guy asked me to leave, it was obvious I shouldn't be there. He confirmed the ship was due to dock fairly soon. I made it back to the lower level and had to watch the docking from behind a huge wire fence. It was spectacular.

The following morning I watched QE2 dock from the top level in or hotel and later that morning we embarked QM2. I made my way off and this time, as a passenger, I was allowed the ship side of the fence and I took lots of pictures of the two liners at their berths. Later QM2 slipped her berth and QE2 followed. The crossing was amazing and we were saluted by a fly past from the Royal Air Force as we approached the UK.

I think we can guess which ship you'd have rather been aboard, but you wouldn't have got those awesome photos.
They are unique and will bring back great memories.

Thanks to those that voted, for what its worth this photo was taken about 9.45 on QE2s last day in New York. I had been (wrongly) told intransits wouldnt be off till shortly before 10am so l waited, and to kill time took a turn around the boat deck and saw this, camera out and snap, nothing exciting about seeing QE2s windows being cleaned, shortly later he moved the ladder round to the front, Dont think l was going to walk under a ladder ! As it happened went to Pursers office to ask when can we get off, only to be told Oh you could have been off ages ago...  >:(

Thanks! En-route to St Peterport on QE at the moment, so a bit delayed in catching up.

I'm glad folks enjoyed this photo as it was just a case of right place at the right time and the only time I've ever seen this type of painting going on.

Not sure if the access arrangements would be approved of these days though . . . .

Congratulations Pete on your winning photo. I am curious to know, where was the photo taken?

That method of working from planks hung over the ships side was used in Hong Kong when I was aboard. Within a couple of hours of our arrival QE2 was festooned with planks like this and over the course of our four day stay they would repaint the entire hull. The interesting part was watching the workers shin up an down the ropes at the start and finish of their very long working days.
