Bob on the job...

Thank you so much for the video. Amazing that it even exists and can be found on YouTube!

Just shows the type of work that can arise on QE2... no two days ever the same, I reckon.

Heres Bob Venning & Vic Goodall performing 'Jake the Peg' in a wardroom show circa 1980. Great Guy.
Other photo is of Bob flanked by Cathy Rocke & Lisa Middlemiss Nurse & Dentist.

When Bob first came to QE2 I think in 1972 I had not been there very long myself. We worked together with Derek Tipton in the Crew Office for the Crew Purser Alex Hunter-Robertson. I always remember that Bob had a laugh and a joke ready. After we had the bomb threat against the ship in May 1972 it was decided that we needed an officer experienced in bomb disposal officer but until the Security Department could be sorted out to absorb this new position Bob was assigned for a short time to the Crew Office. Hence some wag dreaming up the nickname "Bob the Bomb". It stuck for the rest of his career with Cunard. I spent 27 of my 32 years with Cunard  on board QE2 so I knew Bob very well. We did one or two crew shows together over the years.

Great memories and story, Terry -- thank you!

Amazing to think that as a passenger I might have crossed crew members with wonderful stories and greeted them in the alleyways or on deck without ever knowing any of the things that I would have enjoyed so much had I known them at the time...

Thanks Terry for posting your memory of Bob (the Bomb) another great QE2 memory.

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank
