The Pantry, what would have been in there, some drink stores, glass washing equipment....

The Pantry was used for the Grand lounge and Casino. In them you had a washing maschine, the storing of glassware and of coffee sets. There is also a coffee maschine. In charge of them is the Public Room Manager and each one has a phillipino working. His job is to clean everthing.

Louis, where did you get this photo?  This is definitely from 1969 and very close if not on the same voyage I was on from 14-19 Aug 1969.

Check out the band from a different angle from my photos - https://www.flickr.com/photos/33120597@N03/3493483803/

I don't remember much about the band but the leader looked a lot like Tom Jones.  both pictures have the same band leader, same colrful shirts, band members sitting in the same order, same table cloths - but not the same day though as the band leader has a different jacket on.

Huge coincidence and would love to know if you have anymore photos from the same timeframe!

Isnt it funny in that early photo of the band stage just how out in the open and exposed it appears.

Louis, do you know when this picture was taken (i.e. specific date or crossing date)?  Also, if you wouldn't mind, where did you get this and do you have any more?

Just a reminder of the rules of the forum, so that I don't get into trouble.

Please don't attach any photos to your messages, unless you are sure of the copyright situation, or own the photo.  There are some "common sense" exceptions to this rule - e.g. I suspect Cunard won't object if you scan something out of an old brochure... but anything out of a book, or from someone else's website, is definitely out!

The spiral staircase was gone in 1994.

Ahh yes, but don't forget the new Spiral Staircase added to G-Stairway during Project Lifestyle. I was told it was a nostalgic tribute to the original (although they were very different). :)

I never saw that staircase outside of pictures.  To me it just looked like a narrow, confined, dark passage from the Upper to the Boat Deck.  Certainly not anywhere near the grandeur of the original.  I was also surprised to see that the aft wall of G Stairway was also opened up as part of the project to allow passage to the Yacht Club.

The whole set is well worth checking out, with several QE2 pics of that year :

Its amazing how little QE2 changed in her first 18 years as compared to her latter 21 years.

I love these old photos of QE2 but you just can't find them online that often.  I'm going to have to post more of mine when the 40th anniversary of my 1st time on QE2 rolls around on 14 Aug.

Here's a photo taken in the Double Down Room during the Falkland's (http://www.sama82.org/garden/images/rgthomas/greg-in-bar-qe2-82-3.jpg).

The website is worthwhile as it is a memorial to Guardsman R. G. Thomas, 1st Battalion Welsh Guards.
