Philip Green & Andy Green, QE2 photographers 1970's
« on: Jul 27, 2014, 12:08 AM »
Hi, I am Richard Green, son of Philip Green and nephew of Andy Green. I joined the group just to see if anyone remembers my father and uncle who were photographers on the ship from 1969-late 1970s. My father also went back after I was born in 1983 for a couple more years. He was the Chief Photographer on the ship. Just wondering if anyone remembers them and could share stories. I also have 100s of photos of get togethers of the crew and of the times they spent on the QE2, which I could upload on here.  :)

Hello Richard, welcome to the forum and looking forward to seeing some of the photos, either in the relevant topic or the Gallery albums.

Alan Snelson was also a member of the photography department and he has started this really interesting topic.  Alan may remember your dad or uncle.

Hello Richard and a very warm welcome to the forum. :)
"The QE2 is one of the last great transatlantic liners, and arguably the most famous liner in the world"

"QE2 and Concorde, a partnership that lasted almost 30 years... two stunning pieces of engineering, never to be forgotten!"

Hi Richard, thanks for taking the time to post some photos to the gallery. Its great to look back to how things were and to see how fashions have changed. Unfortunately I don't recognise any of the faces, so your dads and my paths appear never to have crossed.

Thanks for posting the photos Richard and I hope that the photos remind some of the members of your Dad and Uncle.  I remember the 70's hairstyles and clothes very well!

Great to see the pictures! Thank you for posting them.

One of them shows what I take to be a Captain and a Staff Captain. I wonder who they are?

yes think you may have just missed each other Alan. He probably left shortly before you started. Hi Isabelle. Im sure I have got some more photos with the captains on somewhere, I will do some more digging in my mothers loft. She has got hundreds of photos of my fathers time on the ships. got quite a lot of celebrity ones to :-)

Thank you so much for these - it is lovely to see some more of QE2 when she was still in her youth!
Might the gentlemen in uniform be Chiefs - Engineers/ or other Technical guys?
They seem to be missing the navigators' (Deck Officers') little round sqwirly bit on the top ring!

Interesting to find that QE2 was chartered by / for the NY Press, just wondering where there is more information regarding this ...

The captain is Doug Ridley and the staff captain I think is named Hutcheson though not absolutely sure. He went on to become master on Cunard Princess and I think he did a few relief stints on QE2.

Hi Richard

You will know from your Mum and sister Selina that your Dad and I worked together with Tim Thorne in the 70's. You actually came to my home in York when you were very young, I believe you were on a family holiday.

I shared many a Bacardi with Phil and Tim, and Andy who came on relief trips to Carribbean.

I took photos of the 1972 mid Atlantic bomb scare when the para's landed in the ocean. You can find photos on FaceBook if you look up Nick Murray from Scarborough.

I promised Selina that I would look through hundreds of photo's to find shots of your Dad and Uncle Andy - but its still work in progress but I will find them.

Have you heard the story about me winding up Andy at breakfast one morning, he piled up his plate and then went back for some tomato sauce. Being Jewish he had a strict diet. Once he had finished eating I told him I had rubbed a piece of bacon on his plate when he went back for the sauce.  He went ballistic and he rushed off to the toilet to make himself sick. When he came back I told him I had really put anything on his plate. Winding each other up was part of the fun. I will find these pictures eventually.

You probably have a photo of Phil - Tim Thorne - Mark Ayling and me hanging on to 2 Champagne bottles in the Colombia dining room

Do you have any pictures of the stunning Denise who worked onboard as a croupier at the Sportsman Casino.
Dark hair and eyes, probably 5'-4" she was from Glasgow and her father was Polish - talk about WOW factor. I would love to know where she went. Be Happy -    Nick Murray
