Hi Thomas - My thoughts exactly - she does have kind of a cruiser stern but probably a bit pointy as she is a smaller vessel.  She (Lone Gerd) is a beauty !  :)

Bruce - I was almost within waving distance of you on Thursday; just over the water from Milford Haven on Pembroke... unfortunately did not have time to nip across...

Alas, it was a day trip from Tenby and with only one train every two hours on the Pembroke Dock branch, plus the rabble* in tow expecting to visit the castle...

Great Castle though. One of the best I've visited and the birthplace of Henry V11 to boot!

We are away now and currently at anchor at Porth Dinllaen on the Llyn Peninsula.

Yes, definitely a proper castle and a decent size as well.

So - your voyage begins, and that looks like very quick progress!  Do you have a map you can post of your planned course?

Thought you may be interested in our mooring neighbour, the ex Angle lifeboat. One of two historic lifeboats moored near us.

Hi Bruce,

What was Lone Gerd originally built as? She certainly has a nice sheer on her anyway!

We actually have very little by way of a plan this year. Our only objective is to be in Liverpool for my nieces wedding by the end of 1st week in September.

Normally we would head from Porth Dinllaen to Victoria Dock in Caernarfon. However the silting there is now so bad that the Harbour Master thinks we would have problems with our 2.5 mtr draught as we only just made it in last year. Fortunately they have arranged dredging for October so we should be ok in the future.

However St Georges Pier at Menai Bridge was suggested as on alternative. We have never used this before as it is normally occupied by the research vessel Prince Madog. However we spoke to the Pier Master and he had no problem with us staying over the Bank Holiday so we are heading there today.

We cannot cross Caenarfon Bar till about 5.30 tonight and then have to make it up through the Swellies and the Britannia and Menai Bridges before the tide turns just after 7.45pm. It will be close but should be do-able.

The links here may give some idea.

Hi Gav
Lone Gerd was a Danish Sein Netter. Built 1954, Oak on Oak (plus modern aluminium deckhouse), 60 tons dislpacement. A typical medium sized Danish boat. There were hundreds of these. Although now somewhat rarer there are still many about, even a few still fishing.

Lone Gerd will look absolutely wonderful tied up between England and Wales!
Oh how I wish I could come up purely for the fun of it!
Will be going (to the Pool) via Chester?
Please  give it most of my love, and of course, have a great time... fear it might be a tad breezy up the coast
Sail well Lone Gerd!

I love your reports from Lone Gerd and just wish I could come and visit! She sounds like a wonderful little ship. Have you ever taken her back to Denmark?

It is fascinating to read about your passage to the Menai Bridge -- that will be a wakeful night for you.

Thanks Bruce - she certainly looks like a good sturdy sea boat! Wouldn't mind one myself.

Godspeed to you, yours and Lone Gerd sir!
