I have a vivid memory of seeing the Upper Deck Library when viewing the QE2 in November 1968 and was very impressed.  There was such a lot to take in that evening as I followed the procession of people viewing the ship but this library was amazing and I could not believe that it was deemed necessary to remove it to make way for a casino.

Thanks for the photos, which bring back so many memories.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Pleased you liked the Upper Deck Library images. It looked like a stunning room - maybe one of the nicest Librarys to go to sea?

I don't think you can have enough QE2 Exhibitions but it all comes down to cost - the 175 Exhibition in Southampton cost a small fortune believe it or not. We may look at doing something similar in the City in 2019 to mark the 100th anniversary of the express service being relocated there in 1919.

Wow! I never knew how beautiful the Upper Deck Library looked! This (in my opinion) should never have been removed from the ship.

Wasn't this library designed by Dennis Lennon? I seem to recall hearing this in a QE2 documentary, maybe "QE2 The Last Great Liner". I think I used it as a sneaky means of travelling through Upper Deck at least once, but in casino form - obviously not allowed as a child! Personally I found the flow of Upper Deck very disjointed when onboard...

Yes - both libraries were Dennis Lennon.

Since our photo competition this month is about QE2's Library/Bookshop, I thought it might be nice to take a look at The Upper Deck Library.  QE2 had two libraries when she went into service.   :)

I doubt we'll get many pictures of this Upper Deck Library in this month's photo competition, as many of us never saw this space, but it would be lovely if we did! It must have been stunning -- even the photographs exude its magic.

I wonder what sort of books were available there? Is there still a list of the library books kept on QE2 -- indeed, at any stage of her history?
