Another short movie frm the British Movietone archives.  This is one of her departing Southampton with a few glimpses of the interior and is in colour!

there's some classic commentary in this video...

...you don't feel you're traveling, you feel you've arrived.

The QE2 sets out as a place that's good to be in.

Words that remained just as true for the next 39 years... and are still true today, I'm sure.

But this is my favorite...

Found this on YouTube today - Movietone footage of maiden voyage, don't think this has been posted before

I've not seen it before I don't think, it's superb, she's so beautiful and sleek looking there. She must have been a real shock after the earlier Queens.

The film was already posted elsewhere on YouTube and mentioned in the Forum, under Design proposals for Hotel QE2 :

I've thought this before, but never suggested it, would it not be sensible to have an index of film links so that duplication can be avoided?

It's a great idea. Can you visualise how it might work?

This is indeed a marvelous video.  I had seen it before in black and white but not in colour.  Our QE2 never loses her sense of "awesomeness" and I suspect she never will !  It is a spectacular video !  It would be very good to start work on a film index for archival purposes as well.  One way might be to start an index of links to films based on when the film was taken, not when it was posted.  Alan, any thoughts on this ?  June

Hi June,

There is work going on behind the scenes at the moment to try to work out the best way to put such an index of videos together. Keep watching the forum (as I know you do) and hopefully we will have something sorted out soon.

Tomorrow, 2 May is the anniversary of our beloved QE2's Maiden Transatlantic Crossing.  Earlier in this topic are some marvelous videos which are worth revisiting to celebrate this special date in our QE2's history.

Ironically met up with a friend from Caithness who l hadnt seen since 1986, he was on the Maiden Voyage of QE2 and came back on the SS United States.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!
