I've just checked QV's bridgecam and she appears not to be in any of the normal berths at Southampton today; she's apparently tied up by the starboard side facing south west.  Unusual?

That looks like berth 46, if so that is the location on the new Ocean Terminal which is like someone else mentiond oppisite the Titanic berth

I think we need an annotated Google Map satellite view here; the berth opposite Titanic's old berth is the old Ocean terminl isn't it?

I believe 44 (opposite of 46) is both the berth Titanic used and the one upon which the old Ocean Terminal was built.

This is Titanic's berth, seen from the stern of the TT Calshot.  The Queen Elizabeth II Terminal is out of the picture at my four o'clock position measured from the direction I was facing to take this picture.

I thought the old Ocean Terminal was the other side of the water in this picture?

So, is that the new Ocean Terminal on the other side then??

Thank you Twynkle.

Right....

So that's the new one in the background in my picture then.  I think I'm starting to get a clearer picture in my head now of what is where.

In an earlier edition of the Echo there was an image of the broken crane alongside QE2's usual mooring,
now succeeded by this report.

I can't get this place out of my hair.....every time I go there I feel the same....
Who designed it?
I'd love to meet that person.
First of all you are directed up an escalator in this  huge barn/shed with corrugated roof ( reminds me of a giant nissan hut) anyway...its MODERN...ok Im old fashioned I hold my hands up...but as if thats not bad enough...after check in you start to progress though to securiity ....fair enough...we did that at QE11Terminal too,,,but then you have to walk ziggy zaggy down this concrete hill holding on for dear life in high stillettos( we DO NOT WEAR TRAINERS or baffies  when embarking on board a Queen do we? ) We are in our finery!  Whilst trying to control a small wheelie  case ......not easy....once down at ground level we heave a sign of relief as we only have the wee gangway to    encounter    then to your horror we  have to start all over again on this gangway??  Ziggy zaggying all the way up again??? Whats this all about?  Honest to god...at the QE11 Terminal the gangway was on the upper level short n sweet straight on the ship,....

I just don't understand the logic of this new fangled thing....and I don't think I'm alone.....ITS CRAZY!

And just think of all those pax who have walking difficulties.....must take them hours just to get on board......

I will be looking out for cruises boarding at the old terminal in future!

And when you look at the thing from Town Quay it looks like a warehouse...

I think it is the same architect that designed the utterly uninspiring Red Hook terminal at the other end of the line in New York! :o

There's a thread about the New Terminal here!

It's not at all bad...
Although the best bit is stepping on board.
It's the bit when you arrive back in the UK that's hard - from Dream to Reality!

And there's the plucky old tug The Calshot next door!

She's a Tug Tender actually, Rosie... if you were to have a look inside her you'll find something like 100 to 150 passenger seats...

Very high quality interior as well; lots of lovely wood panelling.  And she's on topic because she served the original QM and QE... :)
