Did you know that in 1982, QE2 became the world's largest hospital ship, transporting injured service men from the Falkland Islands to Southampton?

That might be pushing the envelope a bit Rosie...Yes there were some injured, not seriously. Most were just grateful to be alive. We also never changed our designation of LPLL Queen Elizabeth 2 either.

'Yes, well...Er...Um, Rod - Sir!
This was a direct quote from a Cunard booklet!

LPLL - please, what does this stand for?  Sounds Liverpudlian, but expect it's something more serious!

Hopefully, and Please - you're not thinking of quitting again, are you?

Did you know
...that if you are going to Dubai - you could be lucky enough to see QE2 there?

...that one of QE2's anchors is on the pavement in Southampton?

It has been fascinating to learn what an LPLL is, however that would mean that my Tweet would be "Did you know QE2 wasn't a LPLL?"  !!

It was an LPLL from start to finish...not a hospital ship...The LPLL was part gag part seriousness. I believe it was First Officer Phil Rentell, in his seconded role as Cunard Liason Officer to the RN working party on board, (he was LT. RNR), that coined it and it stuck. My commerorative Falklands beer mug has that designation on it.

Oh Sorry!  I thought you were saying LPLL was what a Hospital Ship was called, and that QE2 wasn't one!

A very good tweet and Facebook update after all!   :-[

Although a bit off-beam here, but hey - Rob, hope that you won't mind? :)

Rod, when ships became STUFT - did they then become HMS, for the duration of the time they were in service for HM Gov't?
Also when QE2 was STUFT, although her designation remained unchanged in 1982, do you know whether either she or Canberra had their call-signs changed for security purposes?

btw - thank you for your kind of 'trying' - it works well!

Did you know...
That each one of QE2's nine engines was as big as a double-decker bus?
(Maybe this could be used as a 'heads-up', there'll be a red one at the opening of 2012 next Friday!)

Also, might it be a good idea to add the true fact about her fuel consumption?

To use a Brit expression: get STUFT!

No they did not. All ships TUFT retained their own  signal letters. BUT each MN ship when the RN took over, had its own radio room. LPLL QE2's was behind the bridge in the barn with an armed guard. MOD installed sat gear for the Falklands. Did you know? Canberra was #1 QE2 was #2 ....did you know......After the war Cunard decided to keep the sat gear. At the time costs to pax were horrendous about 50 pounds/min....but it was there!
Fore the gun nuts like me...Browning M9.

Yes I know I am old and keep on referring to steam.
Did you know that QE2's original Foster Wheeler esd2 boilers were the biggest ever built? Before of since? They spanned 13 decks!
And boy where they a pain!
