Great find too!  Did anyone else notice that the bridge glass recessed area was NOT painted black?  I could not put my finger on why the bridge looked odd until I looked at the full size pic.  I also noticed that the horizontal band of aluminum plating reinforcing had been added by 1979 below the Upper Deck windows.

Hey, thanks for sharing those awesome pics, i've never been ashamed to go against the flow, and never been ashamed to say i didn't mind the blue boot topping when everyone else seems to hate it, but the more I look, the more I like it even more, it actually has a very real appeal of its own....dedicated fan  8)

Typical of me to resurrect such dead topics lol.

I like the blue boot top because it (at the time) made the ship look modern. Why did they go blue?

Per Isabelle's comment - here is one of QE2 arriving at Cherbourg on a westbound transAtlantic in July 1979.  To be honest, I was extremely disappointed in Cunard for using the blue boot topping and registered a complaint back then.  Blue has no historic meaning with any Cunard ship that I can recall.  Perhaps they were trying to set a trend like the Green Goddess but this blue did not and does not work for me.

I would agree that blue is a nice colour - but I would disagree about it being used in that circumstance; it just doesn't look right...
