SS Rotterdam on video

Music video with SS Rotterdam as its centrepiece :

The refrain says : "It's 5 o'clock, Rotterdam is waking up"...
The singer was the last to leave the pub and is now sailing home to get some sleep.

I have just had a look at this earworm of a video again -- it seems that the SS Rotterdam has at least two expansion joints on each side :

1:50 mins gives the best view of the two black lines ending in a thermometer like ball shape.

Isabelle, have been searching for info on Oriana, & QE2  regarding expansion joints, not been lucky  as yet, came across a video & posted it regarding the improved version on Brittanic, after Titanics sinking.

Now here's an interesting report on Rotterdam  suffering fatigue damage to her expansion joint, 1 of 4 according to the intro.
It makes heavy reading to be honest, but non the less I didn't realise so much work went into these things, (maybe that's why they didn't put any on QE2?). Figs 2 & 3 show the detail.

The students of the shipping and transport college recently gave three days to a great clean-up of the SS Rotterdam. Not quite the usual deck crew scenes, as it is easy to spot that they are novices, but it gives them a great taste for one of the everyday activities of life on board. And the ship is sparkling clean again!

New advertisement on video, showing all the features of the ship open to visitors and overnight guests. It seems that the three managers of the ship are now working together well -- at the very least in the making of this video!

The other good thing is that the ship now seems to be much better connected to the public transport routes -- not only the excellent water taxi, with which the film opens.

I wish the Rotterdam long life and many new happy stories on board! And I look forward to my next visit there -- the sooner the better.

On our Facebook page, someone posted a superb link to some Rotterdam videos by Ernst Galutschek.

For anyone with any doubt that an ex-liner can't function as a hotel, watch these.

This one especially captures the atmosphere that I found on my first two visits to Rotterdam, when we were lucky enough to spend the night -
