Hello from Andy
« on: Apr 04, 2009, 04:35 PM »
hello all,

I have been a member of this forum for a couple of weeks, and have read with interest a lot of the comments, particually on the updates of the QE2 in Dubai.

I have only sailed on the QE2 once, and that was last September on a trip around the Med, having been on the QM2 and Victoria, we were planning to take a voyage on the QE2 this year, but when Cunard anounced she was being sold, we had no choice but to get a voyage in before she went.
Boy what an experence that was, I thought she was looking a bit "tired" by modern ship standards, but that was her charm, and could be easilly forgiven, standards of service and attention to detail were second to none, and it was a fantastic cruise and something that just had to be experenced, and I and pleased that I was able too.

I have got two cruises on the QM2 this year and have got a place on the Maiden Cruise in the Queen Elizabeth in 2010, so you could say I have got the cruise bug

Hello Andy & Welcome!

Glad you made it on board QE2 before it was too late!

Interested to hear in what ways you felt she was tired.  Were they things that could have been addressed or were they inherent in her design?

My spectacles are so rose-tinted I can hardly see through them!

Would love to hear more detail about your QE2 experience... and why you booked QM2 and QV before the most famous ship in the world!

hi Andy

Similar experience to me though I havent been on the others. I must admit my first reaction to the cabin (sorry -Stateroom!) (5 deck) was initially "this is a bit rough around the edges" but like you I found it all part of her charm and it soon became a welcome sanctuary when needed. As you say Service was second to none and we also experienced fantastic service.

Hello Andy and welcome from another Andy!  Great to hear your story and looking forward to hearing more.  Incidentally, which Med cruise were you on last September, was it Sojourn?

Hi Andy yes it was the Sojourn, and again it was a fantastic experience.
I found the Heritage trail by Thomas to be fantastic, even in the hot weather he put his heart into the tour for about two hours.
The entertainment staff were great.
We chose the QM2 first, because it was our first time cruising and did'nt know if we would like the experience, so the only way to find out was, as Cunard says, to try the biggest and the best, we did, and loved it, we chose Victora next as it had just finished its maiden world cruise, and was new.
I had spoken to several people who had been on the QE2, and they said it was "cruising in the old tradition" and having experienced modern cruising, was not sure what to expect, but I need not have worried, like I have said before it was a fantastic experence, the like of which will never come again, so we had to take a voyage on her before she was sold.
I just hope they do her justice in Dubai, and she is not just left to rot due to lack of funds.  That would be very sad

Hello and welcome aboard Andy,

I have to say I agree with you about Thomas and his HeritageTrail - definitely one of my onboard highlights!
I'm glad you got the chance to sail on her and see for yourself exactly what she was all about.

Hope you will enjoy your time here with us as we try to keep the memories alive  ;D

Good to hear you were on the Sojourn Andy, as indeed were Chris Frame and I (did you attend/see his lectures btw?).  Delighted you managed to experience life aboard her and like us all, you will have memories which shall last a lifetime.  Agree Thomas's heritage trails were certainly an experience not to be missed and even though he might get a little muddled on occasion, he more than made up for it in his enthusiasm and passion.

A small world - but how fantastic too to be able to stay in touch with former shipmates!

Agree also, Thomas was part of the QE2 experience. It is very fortunate for Queen Victoria's passengers that he is now aboard her doing Cunard's history justice.

Just been looking at your great website - excellent photos there from Sojourn!!
