QE2 Cakes
« on: Mar 17, 2009, 05:25 PM »
Came across this advert for cakes from a local bakery.  Notice that they did not use the Queen Victoria as an example.  So the QE2 is still important with regard to advertising.

Imagine a QE2 cake. I would eat the funnel first.

How fab is that?  Anyone have a birthday soon?
Would almost be worth getting a year older for......  ::)

I'm not sure what part I'd eat first but think I would save the pointy bit at the front until the end for purely aesthetic reasons - as it would still look like my 'traditional' image of a slice of cake once everything else had been finished.

Although I have to admit it would seem almost sacriligeous to stick a knife in it and then devour.

It puts the Lido Midnight Buffet ones to shame!

Wow!  Great find there Robert

Er, thought I'd get in early by saying that my birthday's in May (hint hint lol).  Not sure about your cake porn fetish there Ali (you meet some strange people on forums don't you think?), but hey, if it's any consolation, I too am rather partial to cake (as my waistline testifies). Personally speaking, I'd plant a candle in the funnel and like Ali, would start with the pointy bit and work aft  ;)

Thanks all, for the cake photos.

Twinkle, was that an edible chocolate castle?  The team in the Lido were certainly very artistic and creative with the fruit and veg. I can remember seeing carved water melon and their ideas were superb.

I shall now guiltily admit that I got a QE2 cake for my birthday.

No bakery in Singapore were able to do it since my birthday is so close to Christmas. So my mother ended up making the cake herself.

I know the cake isn't that accurate to the looks of the QE2 but still I love it.

Well, that is very clearly a QE2 cake! You have a wonderful mother -- what a loving gift! Don't feel guilty about it -- feel proud that someone did that that for you.

I hope you ate it    ;D   !

Hi!
I bet yours probably tasted much better than the Lido ones!

Maybe they (Lido) were cardboard with the same ones bought out once-a-trip!

Indeed.

I ate the funnel first. And then we worked our way from the stern.

Avariel,
Nice cake. I also would have started with the funnel.

Seems you can now have a photo cake. Imagine eating your photo of the qe2.

Why thanks Matt and don't mind if I do!  Unlike Gill however, I'd be prepared to give it a go, after all, it would be rude not to wouldn't it?

Having just re-read the earlier posts, must say I'm rather intrigued by Ali's addiction to internet cake porn (always knew there was something not quite right about that girl lol!).

Remember, a cake is for Christmas, not for life....
