Cabins 2153 and 2154
« on: Sep 24, 2010, 07:24 AM »
As it happens, an amazing number of us stayed in these cabins at one time or another -- very often the first time we were on board.

I have just uploaded several photos of these cabins, taken ten years ago, when they were only a few months old. This is 2154 :

Flagship, I believe these were the very last new cabins created on QE2? Taken as a pair, they were quite unique, and quite different from the other Princess Grill cabins.

Why, exactly, were they created? And what was that space before their creation? Any idea what influenced the rather different decor and floorplan?

They were very cool cabins, which I'd love to have stayed in. Two of many...

Formerly the cabins for the Executive Chef (2153) and Finance Manager (2154), these two new P grades were given over to passenger use during the 1999 refit (which also saw the addition of the Caledonia and Aquitania Suites and the remodelling and enlargement of the Midships Suite in to the Carinthia Suite). The cabins and bathrooms were totally refurbished. Each cabin measured 246-suare feet.

I spent a fortnight in 2153 and loved it.

Intesting topic.  I am looking at old deck plans which show these spaces as baggage rooms off the forward lobby.  Amazing transformation!

How were the noise levels in the rooms?  (i.e. people, baggage, etc.)

There was no noise or people noise, however there was noise from the mooring deck up forward.  It wasn't very far away - just in front and above.  Lots of clanging & banging as the ship was docking/undocking.  However underway, they were very pleasant.

Cabin 2153 had a problem with the air conditioning -- indeed, we managed to have it turned off altogether so as to stop the chilly breeze.

Cabin 2154 allowed me to follow acoustically the baths my neighbours were taking. Otherwise, I cannot remember hearing any particular noise that stopped me enjoying some wonderfully relaxed sleep!

And I never flooded my bathroom either...  ;)
