I wonder why they stopped. The small one they make now fit's inside the Gunze Sangyo model. I know 'cos I tried. Even thought about leaving it inside like a russian doll but decided to put the small one back on top of the telly!

Hadn't realised there was a topic about this model!

I made it in 1991. Here's a picture of her, together with a deck plug from the real one.

Well, to be historically correct, she should either have the funnel painted white (her 1972-1977 look), or the funnel kept as such but have the Bayonne penthouses added (her 1983-1984 look).

The CUNARD decal had faded over 20 years. I replaced it by a new one since this picture was taken.

Just bought this model from a dealer in USA, awaiting dispatch & eventual arrival,(gonna cost a packet  in taxes, vat ,customs, & onward postage I recon) but looking at these results it's got to be worth it,maybe winter evenings won't be too bad after all?. Can't wait actually :P

Hi Pete - It is very exciting news to hear that you have this model coming.  Please take a picture when she arrives, and as you are working on her so you can share the progress with us.  It is, again, very exciting that we have here several models and several jigsaws being worked on at the same time.  June   :)

Well it's just arrived safe & sound, after a transatlantic crossing from Miami, (so QE2  has 'sort of ' just done an eastbound run in 2014).
Lots of research to do now, I've got to do her proud, no pressure then!!! , any help appreciated.

Hello Adam, I will certainly post on going progress - as & when , the last model I did was SS Oriana, she was built  5 miles or so down the road from here, (wish I still had it). That makes it about 40years since I glued 2 bits of plastic together, so I've got to do this model proud, I've started research on the positioning of the bow thrusters, as there is no moulding on the hull sections for them, I recon it's a case if drilling holes in the hull , then blanking off from the inside so as to simulate the closed door, the devil is in the detail (where exactly & how big to do them).Lucky for me there is a host of information  out there just got to find it.   Thanks  Pete..

Hi Pete - Thanks very much for the detailed information about your QE2 model.  It sounds to be a very interesting and exacting project.  So she (model) will really be having a building and refit.  We are looking forward to detailed info as her building progresses along with pictures.  I hope our beloved QE2 in Dubai can feel all the positive vibrations heading her way as we have three puzzles and a model in progress !!  June   :)

didn't realise the work involved in masking for the different hull colours, fiddly , but enjoying this.

This is the same model as Alistairs, & am thankful to him for posting piccys of his,  for me to use for guidance ,  ;)

Oh Pete!
That looks so cool!
Probably best not to do it at the same time as the sitting room - not too sure how Mrs Pete would like a wall in Federal Gray! - Or a Funnel instead of a chimney for that matter!
All the best to you and yours
