Oh I really took the hump with Cunard over this one as we were booked on the cruises after it.....needless to say we didnt sail so spent the 6 weeks already planned for the holiday entirely in the USA .! Shopped for Scotland and had too much luggage to trail back.....thankfully BA upgraded us to first class....but it was hardly the same as a trip on the Qe2....

Hey there folks,
I was working on the Vistafjord at the time, we were returning to the ship as it had been used as accommodation for Time magazine during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Coming thru Heathrow airport we see a newspaper headline....QE2 Holed!
See the pic below.
A QE2 crewmember who transferred to the Vista shortly afterwards told us a few tales about the grounding.
Apparently she and a few others were having a cabin party when the ship hit...someone asked "what was that" a reply came "a strawberry flavored jellyfish"! Apparently when a lot of the crew were disembarking in Boston under strict instructions not to talk to the press, someone yelled "What did you hit"....reply "A strawberry Flavor Jellyfish!!!!
Good old QE2 crew humor.
Cheers

Are there any public pictures of the actual damage?  Would love to see them if so.

Here is a new, somewhat facetious, article about the grounding :

what a most refreshing report...
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

A cheeky take on this near disastrous story!

I wonder whether this too came from the bowels of Six Deck... and who produced the design? QE2 must have had excellent printers if they could work on textiles as well as paper...

Totally OT, but Cuttyhunk Island has some of the best striped bass fishing around--used to go there every year with a bunch of guys and jig with wire line for the bass.  At that time the keeper size was 36", so a lot of them had to get thrown back, but great fighters.  Apart from that the only thing to do on Cuttyhunk was drink.  One other piece of trivia, the island was a military installation during WWII, and still uses the government's original diesel gen set for power.   By this time it could probably use one of QE2"s MAN's for a replacement.

An interesting link Isabelle,
However, someone very closely involved with QE2 and Martha's Vineyard grounding knows much about squat.
When I asked him last week (and it was early days then after the incident involving Costa Concordia),
he told me then that he very much doubted if the Costa Concordia incident was due to squat...
