The reporter for this article contacted me, seeking to speak to Captain Woodall.  I forwarded her details to Richard Woodall, but she ran the story before anyone got a chance to respond.  I was keen to say that she had possibly missed the point of the story - and that QE2 was quite a different type of ship - and perhaps the story was WHY had QE2's passengers been able to continue to party the night away, even though far below them the ship was badly damaged...

Like Martha's Vineyard, the grounding on the Brambles, the scary fire in QE2's engine room etc, and perhaps the outage on board QM2 off Barcelona - it must be difficult and painful for anyone in a position of responsibility to recall what must have been experienced as truly shocking at the time.  Wishing now that the press and media were more sensitive, as well as less greedy!

There's been lots of coverage of the Concordia incident but being at the cusp of wide proliferation of the internet in 1992 there was not much outside newsprint and radio/TV.  Have there since been any photos of the damage posted anywhere?

I'm sure I saw some photos of the damage to the underside of the hull on this forum a few months ago.

This article sheds interesting light on the incident that happened 20 years ago this summer, right in my backyard.  I remember this event vividly.

Interesting comments about Cunard suing NOAA and losing.  Even more interesting is the timeline with the course correction noted and the speed.  One piece of information I have never heard before discussed is the data of the near grounding preceeding this event.  Given the shallow depths, did QE2 ever enter these waters again?

When the QE2 ran aground in 1992 in Marthers Vineyard the props were damaged & parts were sent away to be examined.. when they were returned to the ship, the Tech stores manager gave some pieces away for paper weights & I have a couple of bits, you can see where they where ripped apart.... 

I am thinking about gettings these cut up & put on plaques with the date etc, I have now noticed on the round boss part there are some stamped numbers, 2543-7-6, mean any thing to any one?

Very interesting, I guess not many people can say they have a piece of the QE2's propeller in their house!
