"Queen Elizabeth 2" Cocktail
« on: Jul 14, 2010, 02:07 AM »
Thought I'd put this in the 1980s forum, as it came from a bar list from (it seems) the 1980s.

A friend of mine gave me a list from a trip on QE2 in the mid-late 80s. After gawking over the $2.25 single malts and $1.50 Guinness, I noticed a mixed drink called a "Queen Elizabeth 2."

Unlike more recent bar lists, it doesn't actually say what a "Queen Elizabeth 2" cocktail is...just the name of the cocktail and the price. Anyone know how to make one? I'd love to try it...

The QE2 cocktail was one of the first drinks l had onboard in 1986 on my first crossing. I really didnt care for it at the time. It probably wasnt helped by the fact l was under age at that time. But to be able to order an alcoholic drink and sign for it gave me quite a buzz and in the surroundings of Theatre Bar ;D

Any recollection of what it contained? Though I'm guessing at that age, you didn't have the "taste catalog." (Perhaps you could compare it to a Sydney Apple, which I'm told you are fond if. ;))

Looking at the bar list, it seems like it's more in the cocktail realm than the super-strong multi-liquor mixed drinks category. So I'm guessing it was something somewhat simple to make?

There's also an item on the list, in the non-alcoholic list, called a "QE2 Fruit Punch." What makes it "QE2," I don't know. And of course, the QE2 Single Malt, for $27.50 in collectable bottle, and $5 QE2 Miniatures.

I've got one of those QE2 malt whiskey bottles,
inherited from a relative who sailed on the QE2 many years ago, 25 year old scotch that has been
contained for at least another 20 years....sealed with wax.
Saving it for my 50th next year...hey I know I could put it on E-bay but I want to enjoy it myself!!!!!!
Cheers
