Onboard Shopping

What did you buy most in the QE2s shops ? Did you think you could get a good bargain in the onboard shops ? what did you buy the most ? Did you think the shops were good or crap ?
i used to come off after a cruise with at least 2 designer watches and a couple of pieces of swarovski crystal, the last things i bought on board were a limited edition charger plate with the QE2 on it and a QE2 teddy with the words cunard 1967 to 2008 embroidered on its foot.

We bought the QE2 tea towel, fridge magnet and a couple of other small things!

But also, Yola bought a dress which had to be slightly altered by the on board tailor, Tommy, as she is a bit shorter than most.

My most serious damage to my onboard account occured in the book shop buying prints and other memorabilia, followed closely by the main QE2 gift shop for clothing at the stern on Boat Deck.

Yes! I also spent many a happy hour in the Book Shop and "QE2 Gifts". Aside from Harrods, as far as I was concerned the rest of the Royal Promenade could have been done away with; so long as there was QE2 memorabilia I was happy.

Does anyone know the reason why the configuration of the shops changed during Project Lifestyle? Was it to allow those passengers who wanted to "pull up a chair" to do so, or simply to de-80'fy QE2's Boat Deck? (If you recall, Christian Dior and other shopd were positioned against the railing on the lounges void).

My best buy on QE2 was  about 20 YEARS ago...An Aquascutum  skirt suit and a gorgeous pair of  Suede Bally Stillettos. ( from the Bally shoe shop on board now the watch shop I think)..( Both I have to say are still used!  unlike any of the Chinese  rubbish that ended up in there now) ) The suit has been worn on  nearly every QE2 Embarkation!!   Its my  cruise uniform  LOL!!   You could say I got my moneys worth......it still looks as good as the day I bought it...

There used to be a time when the Harrods on One deck carried a nice range of souvenirs with the  QE2/Harrods logo and it was quite smart. The Harrods in later years on the boat deck just resembled a mini Knightsbridge store with nothing of any great interest, and all products could be bought ashore.

 The tin of butter biscuits made a great souvenir gift to friends. The door stop bears (Bates,Bennell & McNaught , yes l gave them names) were l thought very amusing, not to mention heavy in the suitcase. The ones pictured (image not available) were bought in 1988, but too good to use, but every now and again they come out to play...

I particularly liked the book shop and have bought quite a number of books some signed by the author such as the Commodore Warwick book on the QE2.  In fact any book about the QE2 was a favourite purchase.  I have also bought a few teddy bears for the grandchildren and key rings and tins of biscuits for friends.  I have a favourite QE2 Tshirt purchased from the Harrods shop but the Tshirt is now looking a bit shabby as it has been worn and washed so often.  I also like a decanter and glasses purchased on board ship that has picture of the QE2 engraved on them.

I purchased the QE2 beach towel (which is now very worn!), a keychain and a charm for a necklace.  I wish I had bought more - but I was on my way to London and was paranoid I was going to run out of money (to be in in a foreign country, alone, without money - scary idea!)
