The QE2 Timeline - maiden calls, final calls
« on: Apr 05, 2010, 02:15 PM »
I'm going to make this a separate topic as otherwise the more fascinating events in QE2's unique story will be 'drowned out' by them.

Please reply to this topic with any edits, which I will then incorporate before deleting your post.

Thank you to everybody who put so much effort into the original topic to bring out these dates.  Because the members of this forum worked out this information, it is not to be re-used without permission and a credit back to this topic.  I am also going to put a page for this information on the main site.

5 September 1995: Maiden call at Newcastle,England.

Wasn't her maiden Newcastle call 16 September 2007, on her 40th Anniversary Cruise?
All the buzz and press reports at that time was that it was indeed her maiden call...

The following have been updated on the timeline list

24 Oct. 2008, final call to Bilbao, Spain
25 Oct. 2008, final call in France, Le Verdon Sur Mer
26 Oct. 2008, final call to St. Peter Port, Guernsey, aborted

Hey Rob

This is fast becoming a Masterpiece!

What would be the most helpful, now -
a) adding any additions as they occur on the current calendar (as before - adds interest?? :) )
Or b) supplying them randomly as we find them?
c) either?

8th April 2008: Final call at Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Hi Rosie,

For now, if you wish to add 'on this day' type postings like you were doing before, please do so in the 'QE2 anniversaries..' topic as before.  This is a nice thing, i agree, and pops up on peoples recent/new posts so they are highlighted.

However if you come across any that aren't already in our timelines here, please also post a reply to them so i know to add them.

Thanks for your continued enthusiasm.

- Rob.

10th April 2008: Final call Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA

Here's a blog that documents the last World Cruise, including this port, with fabulous pictures.  Scrolling through them, really gives you a sense on jsut how epic a voyage like this would be in any ship, let alone the greatest ship in the world.  ;D I cannot believe it has been two years.  Shortly after this sailaway, the ship lost all power, once again, for a considerable time and had to cruise at 30 knots to make up time to NYC, where I was waiting for the ship to come out of the fog two days later.  Refer to Malcolm's postings on the final World Cruise.

Ronald Warwick's book has an appendix in which he lists all the maiden calls which had taken place by the time the book was published (not sure about whether the later editions included the later maiden calls -- am not within reach of the book at present).

Hi Isabelle

That's great news regarding record of QE2's maiden calls.
The Itinerary page on Sam Warwick's site is useful for working out her Final calls.
