That's right Rosie.
Google can Cache images and html but not Flash.
The virtual tour was flash and therefore, without the source files, it's gone.

I wonder if Cunard would allow the files to be run through Rob's main website?

Edited to add: Presumably they do still have all the software and image files etc from the feature.

and Richard's sites

Does anyone think that Cunard might re-install the Virtual Experience on their new site?
It was the plinking music - sounded like the harp in the Midships Lobby..... :'(
And the actors....
THIS IS A VERY SAD DAY INDEED!

In 2008, just at the end of QE2's service life, I used a Firefox plugin called Scrapbook to, I believe, capture the entire QE2 section of the Cunard website.  As mentioned above, however, this will not include the actual Flash file that runs the virtual experience.  I think I could, at some point, if allowed, recreate the entire QE2 section of Cunard's website.

Rob
There has been a Thread here under Service with links to The Virtual Experience on Chris's site -
Posted originally on 7th Feb 2009

Then it was edited by yourself, with a message then that you would contact Cunard...!

I did contact Cunard, and they assured me it would be preserved, and I have now contacted Cunard again...

I also contacted Cunard asking to preserve the virtual tour and flash deckplans. I never got a reply.

I'm afraid that the flash files are complex, a number of different .swf files are called on to make it work. I expect that they'd need to run on the Cunard.com domain to work without having to rebuild the original flash file. Hopefully they'll fix up the QE2 page and return it for good measure... But I doubt it. QE2 is just another retired ship for them now, the new fleet is where their attention is.

Do you think the Cunard site will recognise hits from The Forum link?
If so, and there's someone monitoring the hits -  might this give them the hint?!!

Thats not true - any website owner can see what the 'referring site' is.  However I suspect in reality it will be a drop in the ocean for Cunard's website and nobody would notice, let alone care!

I think it,s time that all historic ships be preserved in this manner.  How fun and interesting it would it be to stroll the decks of the three Queens again as well as all the "ia's" and "ic's" and other lines.

Come on Cunard/Carnival show show pride in your line's history and start publishing these sorts of virtual tours in interactive form!  The technology and ability is here and available.

Does anyone have any plans that show the full six deck and seven deck (the crew areas)?
