Was it common for friendships to develop across some of these divides? Were there invisible boundaries and dividing lines?

Yes there was cases but its a tough one.Even in the same deparment its a hard one, there were times i only saw Anja after work at night. And what helped is that we had a cabin for us,this was only possible because theere was another bartender who also had a girlfriend that was a waitress so offically i shared with him and Anja with her.Like this we got each a cabin then.

In the early years when was a Public Room Steward i had a brother working in the Restaurants we used to go for days without crossing paths.

A relationship between a couple only works if there is love and to start that on a ship its not easy.
