Having just posted my first picture of the QE2 at Clydebank in a separate thread here is one of my final shots as she left the Tyne just over forty-one years later:

That's a beautiful picture! You got yourself a better position too than the people below... and so, you saw her lovely reflection on the water.

Thank you for your kind comment Isabelle, it was a wonderful evening I am sure the people on board did not realise how many  had turned out to see her departure.

Three years ago, we were setting of on a never to be forgotten voyage, as QE2 said goodbye.
It really was the start of the end... :'(

Myles, funnily enough I dug up the details of this Channel hop offer and mailed them to Flagship myself a couple of weeks ago! ;D

I'll let him have the pleasure of posting up a copy of the letter I scanned for him.  All I'll say now is that yes, it was offered but there was an interesting sting in the tail when it came to the fare... ;)

What was the sting in the tale re the fare

What was the sting in the tale re the fare

I suspect the fare was exactly the same as if they'd done a full TransAtlantic voyage - or in this case, the full Round Britain voyage, but the principle is the same.

That was done in case they couldn't sell the space on to someone for the Cherbourg - New York ( or vice-versa ) leg; Eric Flounders explained that to me once a bit over 40 years ago when I enquired about doing just the Channel hop to "claim" a ride on QE2.
