As a kid growing up in the 60s and 70s, QE2, Concorde and even the Saturn V moon rocket were huge technological and travel icons. Of course, riding the Saturn V was nothing more than a pipedream, and even boarding Concorde or the QE2 seemed totally far-fetched within our straitened circumstances. As a keen traveller, I sadly missed out on Concorde but did manage the QE2, a journey undertaken in adult life to relocate from one continent to another - something I could never have imagined possible as a spotty-faced yoof in the 70s ! That I could enjoy and savour what may well be the last great travel icon remains both a privilige and a treasured memory - one that shows no sign of fading, by the way.
Incidentally, I noticed the Captain's party in your wonderful video which featured a couple of Chinese banners. Translated, they say: 'What is under heaven is for all' (a saying by Sun Yat-sen) - and that says it all, perhaps !
