Well it appears to be the end of the line for the SSUS.

It would be kinda nice if they removed the iconic funnels and her lettering and it them somewhere. But its still a sad end

I wanted to update everybody on what has happened. I'm sure everybody already knows, but the SSUSC signed an agreement to have the ship sunk as an artificial reef in Florida. At least one of the funnels is going to be removed and placed in a land-based museum for the ship and its history. It's really bittersweet to hear, but it's a done deal. I got to visit and tour her back in 2016 and have some photos posted here somewhere on the forum if I can find them. https://news.usni.org/2024/10/16/ss-united-states-getting-towed-to-norfolk-ahead-of-planned-sinking-off-florida-coast

Amazing aerial views of what looks a beautiful ship. Imagine how she would look with a fresh lick of paint , or even freshly painted funnels.
