I have just added a new album to our gallery called 1972 refit.  This is 12 slides that were within our box of slides that we acquired a couple of years ago now.

I only just realised I had never uploaded these.

This was a significant refit, and the slides include images of the observation bar windows being plated over, and the shops being added to the Double Up room

Passionate about QE2's service life for 40 years and creator of this website.  I have worked in IT for 28 years and created my personal QE2 website in 1994.

Fascinating and rare photos of this refit with it's key changes. It's also great to see more photos of the first Fairsky a ship with an interesting history and provenance too.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

What a fantastic addition to the forum's photo collection. Is that the Britannia figurehead statue that is covered with a dust sheet?

It would be interesting to have more information on the control panels shown in two of the photos.  Maybe Willum or Rod would be able to tell us more.  Tannoy is the only word that is prominent on the equipment.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

"Panel Pics"  were taken in the SRE room on 3 deck. The panels themselves are for the PA system provided by Tannoy. The door at the end leads into the telephone exchange.
Don't forget that when launched, QE2  had a manual exchange like you saw Lily Tomlin oporating in Rowan and Martins Laugh In.
