I have some questions for those regular QE2 travellers from this time - Myles and John maybe?
When l first went on QE2 in 86 she was to my mind the original, then the Maiden Voyage in 87 came with the big changes , Then l sailed again in 88 89 and 91 then didnt sail again till 2001 by which tiem Project Lifestyle had settled down, so my memories are of the biggest changes were in 87 .
The Double Down Room , was to me a fabulous lounge with the old style shopping arcade, the 87 version was just a mish mash and l never really liked the Grand Lounge. The loss of the beautilful dark carpet and walls on D stairway at the Columbia was again another big miss.
What i never go used to was the addition of the stainless steel handrails added on to increase the height of the stairwell, l guess to stop people toppling over the edge, but thinking back at the time they did seem pretty low.
I never got used to the Pub, it was always the Theatre Bar in my mind. and l tried to avoid the pub like the plague.
Likewise with the Tables of the World and its varous themes seemed to make it look smaller, the newer in carnations just made a long room look all the same , the dinner dancing i thought never really got off the ground, much as though the dance floor looked lovely .
To me the Project Lifestyle was just a glorified refit as they changed QE2 again inside and it was just a case of geting used to the new look.
I would have loved had they improved the Midships lobby to the double deck version.
The Tenders Alpha and beta l never really used but just looked like added on carbunkles , and the only really good thing about any of the tenders was the fact it allowed a unusual view of QE2 from a port .
Any of the cabins l had over the years, and bar an onoffial upgrade l wa salways in a single cabin the only marked difference was the showers. the inside of them other than carpets never changed. Opening the wardrobe doors told you it have never been changed since 69 with the formica . and other than the addition of the TVs to my mind they never really changed all that much.
