Can you identify these promenade areas on QE2 from 1969?

Yes - the flag mural was removed in 1972!

Great photos. We often see so many pictures of the most glamorous looking locations, especially 1969 QE2, it is interesting to see all the places in between!

It’s a little disorienting matching up my memories from 10 years ago with the research I’ve done on earlier iterations of her.  I agree with Davina’s assessment of the spaces.  The one thing I’m not remembering is the steps up from the Midship bar to the Queens Room.  Was that changed to a slope?

There was always a couple of steps up from the Midships Bar / Chart Room to the Queens Room while there was a ramp on the port side to the Queens Room from / to the Library which was installed to make QE2 ADA (Americans with Disabilties) compliant.

The same aft of the Grand Lounge. Originally both were steps but ADA regulations meant a slope was built on the starboard side!

Yes, now I remember. Thank you. It’s funny how some details you can never forget and others become fuzzy over time!

  • QE2 started a dream to go to sea - now a reality!

The steps and ramps is something we became aware of when my Mum had to use her scooter or a wheelchair on our later voyages. The photos have reminded me of having to go one particular side of the ship to get somewhere on the other side on some occasions!

First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.
