'Missing' Artwork and Heritage Items
« on: Sep 04, 2018, 11:58 AM »
I have looked closely at as many images I have seen of the interiors of Hotel QE2 and the interior of the Queen Elizabeth 2 Building and I have yet to see the following pieces of artwork or features from the Heritage Trail:

Queen Mary Piano from the Chart Room – there have been discussions on the internet that this had been damaged and was being repaired.

Portrait of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip from D Stairway Boat Deck. (Not seen publicly since being displayed in the Terminal on Sunday 17 January 2013).

Britannia Figurehead from A Stairway Boat Deck. (Not seen publicly since being displayed in the Terminal on Sunday 17 January 2013).

QE2 Builder’s Plaque (returned from Queen Elizabeth in April 2018).

Royal Coat of Arms from the Queens Room.

Peter Radmore Collection from D Stairway Upper Deck.

Items in Queen Elizabeth Cabinet from G Stairway Upper Deck.

Has anyone spotted these items from their visits or photos they have seen?

Here is when the above portrait and firgurehead was last seen publicly - in the Terminal for the grand Far East announcement in January 2013:

The Queen Mary piano is under repairs, the rest indeed are still missing but they are in a warehouse they will be returned bit by bit.The question is where they will be displayed on the ship or in the terminal.

Thank you Davina.

I see on the QE2 Dubai Facebook they have responded today to some criticism about items not being on board and they have said: "It's a new concept and we are very happy with what has been changed. More changes will happen in the coming months and a number of artefacts will be returned."

Fingers crossed!

Davina. It seems a crazy way to operate that they ban you from Facebook , Given all that you have done for them over the years. Gratitude indeed. Makes you wonder if they have any idea what they are doing in general.

"I believe its a easy task to return all the artworks and memorabilia to its original 2008 location, bet this fits in the hotels concept too right?"

My thoughts exactly when speaking with Davina/Louis in private. It is a shame it has come to this.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

That is sad... sorry about that, Louis... and it does not bode well for the future...

Louis, I am sorry to hear what has transpired.  It does not bode well for the future as Isabelle has pointed out.

It does not seem that inside a bar area is a good location for the figurehead.

Although I agree the Chart Room seems like an awkward place for the figurehead (given her size), in service I did always find it odd that she was placed at the top of A-Stairway. As if she was some kind of guard for the men's restroom that is there or that the top of A Stairway was the place you put things you didn't know where to put (like an Attic).

It did make my parents and I think twice at first before we realised  ;)
