When QE2 left Southampton for the UK start of her 1996 World Cruise on 15 December 1996 there was a firework display. These fireworks were the ones that should have been used on 17 December 1994 to welcome the ‘new’ QE2 back to service. That display was cancelled due to the problems being experienced with the unfinished refit so the fireworks were held in storage and used on this occasion.
