That plaque has quite a history.
Commodore Warwick described how it found its way on the ship in a lexture onboard the I attended.
He was responsible for fitting it onboard, twice actually. It is actually the second of such plaques fitted.
The first one came from the last ship he was on prior to coming onboard QE2. He told a funny story about having the plaque removed off his old ship and having it crated up and brought onboard QE2, with several crew needing to move it. He did not realize the weight of the plaque. It was later removed when a change in Cunard ownership wanted to update the exterior of the ship (was it during the brief time that the ship had the speed stripe and lion logos on the side?)
Eventually, and I can't remember the details, the second ship changed Cunard ownership and that plaque ended up finding its way on the front of QE2. Now, the QM2 has the one of the plaques in ia similar location and he did not elaborate on how it got there, but it had to have been his doing. I can't remember the full story completely on which ships "donated" the plaques, but perhaps someone has a better recollection of the history. Was it the Countess and the Adventurer? Commodore Warwick was in command at the time the ships that were being handed over from Cunard.
