You may be surprised to read that there is an inland lighthouse in Ireland, in the middle of the country, far away from the sea. It is quite a landmark near Kells, Co. Meath, and has an interesting history.

I see in the above link that the lighthouse can actually be visited on Fridays during summertime, and this will be something for my to do list next year!
