Before you answer.Think about this!
My thoughts:
If Carnival has to pay the USCG, then everybody should. Foreign, domestic, from a mega-liner to a 15 foot skiff.
What happens if the shoe is on the other foot? What happens if a Brit warship rescues or renders aid to a US vessel? What about the Brit warship that came to the rescue of a USCG cutter in the Caribbean about 4/5 years ago?
What about if a UK warship confiscates drugs bound for the US?
Opens up all sorts of questions....doesn't it?
I believe the Honorable Senator is up for re-election BTW!

I, too, would have to say no. Here in Blighty one of our sea rescue organisations is the RNLI. It's a charity, relying on donations to fund it's boats, equipment and fuel costs and operates with volunteer crews.

That said, the USCG, as the regulatory authority, can investigate any incidents requiring their, or any, assistance and, if found to be caused by incompetence, neglect or misconduct, can then prosecute or raise action against the company or it's officers.

I agree!  Absolutely not.  Also, this Senator is just trying to capitalize on the situation and doing what politicians do....pander and capitalize on a situation for his own benefit.  If he would have done some serious research before opening his mouth....

It looks like they will repay the cost. I wonder if this is a PR exercise, as they haven't had a very good time of things lately.
