Aquitania anniversary in Liverpool 2014
« on: Mar 28, 2013, 04:16 PM »
Also worth noting Queen Victoria will once again do a round Britain cruise.  On this occasion she will be alongside in Liverpool overnight to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Aquitania's maiden voyage.

Dont't know what to make of this :-\

Its nice that they're not forgetting either Liverpool or the awesome Aquitania.

A quite appropriate thing to do - the Ship Beautiful was a much loved ClydeBuilt vessel who ended her days not too far away from where she started them!

Not wishing to initiate a stooshie here but it would appear that  on this site at present whatever Cunard do at the moment is wrong, inappropriate or "not like the old days". Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but remember they are a business with huge overhead costs which during a world recession has to make money to survive. I would rather have them here in name than not at all.

I quite agree Gavin and its a fine line we've had to tread. I know people have been put off the forum entirely because of this.

An incredible amount has changed since QE2 left (and even before) but I think it's probably all been covered now!

The firm focus of the forum was always meant to be QE2's time in service, up until November 2008.

As someone who was (unfortunately) never able to sail on QE2 I really enjoy all the stories, facts, photos etc on this forum so lets stick to constructive criticism etc where appropriate and talk about QE2!!

BTW - Aquitania had the most gorgeous Counter Stern!!!  ;)

Hi Chris, hope it might happen!
If so, it would be really good - you could think about a Cunarder in every port, bar one- that one being Liverpool.
(Just for the record, Aquitainia being a Clydesider, wondering now why  Greenock isn't an over-nighter as well!)

And on the way to Liverpool (with that magnificent hairy turn into the Mersey)  you could do the most fantastic Cunard lecture of all time, covering the influence of The River, The Docks and The People...Cunard couldn't have done any of 'it' without any of them....just don't mention the strikes!! :)

Mindful too, of what flagship writes above, can't wait to hear what he's got up his sleeve too!
(BTW, If anyone is able to take and post photos of the recently renovated interior of the Cunard building at the Pier Head, it would be wonderful...mine aren't the best).
