Cruise did the leg work, first picking up the phone to the bridge and asking the navigator who converted nautical miles to regular miles. Then cruise alerted the winner.
Don't recall what was the prize, but I did get to see some results in cruise office. If I remember one time the ship was going nearly flat out, the answers varied between 75 miles and 1400 miles.
Remember if the ship was blistering along at 30 knots (34.6mph) for 24 hours she could cover over 800 miles.
