Very interesting video!
On my first ship, Ocean Princess, we did a Christmas Cruise up the Amazon.
Every now and then we would hear big thumping sounds from below!
This was due to large chunks of river bottom being sucked upward and hitting the hull.
Bit unnerving but we didn't run aground...on that trip at least. :D

I also noticed this video. His videos are very good. As soon as I saw the QE2’s profile on the thumbnail I clicked straight away. An interesting explainer indeed!!

I did the same! Casual Navigation does a great job of bringing some of what we learn about as deck officer cadets to the masses. He's a qualified deck officer too I believe.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

There is an incredible amount of information on this topic about the 1992 Martha Vineyard grounding.  Louis de Sousa had posted this picture of the ship in the dry dock. Louis if you are still visiting the forum it would be good to learn more about your memories of    the opportunity to get this picture.

Chris Thompson had also posted this image of a newspaper cutting that he had kept.

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank
